Nikon announces D700: Full-frame dSLR for $2,000 less than flagship D3

If you've been droooooling over the Nikon D3, but couldn't get one without your significant other noticing that you skipped a couple mortgage payments, then this is for you. Nikon, yesterday, announced a full-frame camera using the D3 sensor, but in a D300 body - sort of.

Retailers don't expect to have them in stock until the end of July, but you can pre-order your, here.

Here's the DPReview.

Get yours here, and help me keep this blog active.

The above is for the body. If you want it with my favorite lens - the Nikon 24-120 (It's my main lens), go here.

  2. Hey, What do you think about the SB900? I heard the comparison between the SB800 (which I use) and the SB900 (looking to get) is the SB800 is better in power.. Is this true?

  3. Bob - no real opinion on the SB-900, 'til I actually shoot with one. I understand retailers expect to have them in early August. It looks like the power is about the same, however the SB-900 has a wider 17-200 mm auto zoom range (expanded from the SB-800’s 24-105mm) -- sort of like a built-in Better Beamer! It also has Beam shaping - custom light patterns within the beam and some of the CLS controls are now on dials, rather than buried within menus -- and that seems like a real plus to me.

  4. Yeah, That's the only new additions I saw; and I was actually pretty interested on the new 17-200mm range.. Kind of nice for going out when you're dealing with a larger group of people. I'd like to get my hands on one, but I found a place that sells them for about 450 dollars a pop. I think I may give it a go and I'll let you know how it goes. (this was an online shop)

  5. Well, I ordered one. And to behonest. I'm a bit worried because of the hot shoe mount on it.. But we'll see how it goes. I'll let you know, and take some pictures with it.
